Feeding South Florida Home

Feeding America has just released the results of an extensive nationwide study of hunger—Hunger in America 2010. The study confirms what we already expected: America’s economic recession is taking a terrible toll on Americans and their ability to feed their families.
Some of the startling statistics include:
1. Nearly 37 million families were served by Feeding America’s food bank network in 2009, including 14 million children. That means one in eight Americans turn to food banks for food assistance.
2. Since 2006, there has been a 50 percent increase in the number of children served by the network.
3. Many Americans are being forced to choose between providing food for their families and other basic necessities of life.
Some statistics for Feeding South Florida include:
1. The FA system served by Feeding South Florida provides emergency food for an estimated 140,000 different people weekly.
2. 36% of the members of households served by Feeding South Florida are children under 18 years old.
3. 47% of clients served by Feeding South Florida report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel.

We are a member of the Feeding America Network
Feeding South Florida, a not for profit
organization, empowers other South Florida Not-for-profit organizations
to feed needy people and improve their lives. We do this by providing
food and other grocery products: and by educating and engaging our community
to fight hunger and poverty.
We are the South Florida affiliate of Feeding America, a member of the Florida
Association of Food Banks and the largest food bank in the State of Florida.
Today Daily Bread Food Bank is changing its name to Feeding South Florida. This is in addition to already being a member agency with Feeding America. By being a Feeding America member we are able to join forces with a nationwide network of food banks.
With this name change we will continue to grow and serve the hungry in South Florida. We are also proud to announce the opening of our new and larger facility in Pembroke Park in Broward County. After the tragic loss of our Broward warehouse due to a fire
last week, we were able to bounce back larger and stronger than ever. We have gotten such a large response in our time of need from the media and the local community we had to open our new facility sooner than anticipated.
We are also building a new and improved website to be launched February 2010.
